Golf Shoulder Turn
By Jamie Faidley under Swing
Who doesn’t want more power and distance on the golf course? If you want to maximize your clubhead speed while still maintaining accurate ball striking then you have to complete a full shoulder turn. This means your shoulders should turn about 90 degress, while your hips turn close to 45 degress. This creates a rubber-band effect called torque.
Flexibility
Can you make a full turn without feeling a tightening? If not then it’s important to work on stretching so you can improve this rotation in your swing. What you need to work on is core rotational flexibility. Mike Pederson has some different exercises in his golf stretching DVD that will help you make a better rotation with your swing.
Easy Drills
An easy drill that you can do either inside or outside is to take a club and lay it across the top of your back with both of your hands holding the club. Then get down in your stance and make a normal turn. Looking at the club you should find it is perpendicular to your feet.
A similar technique is to lay a club straight up and down by your outside foot (for right-handed golfers this is the right foot). Fold your arms up towards your shoulders and lay a club in between your elbows. As you make a completer shoulder turn the two clubs should line up. Here is an example from Mike Pederson.
